Burial & After Burial

Burials

Llanelli District Cemetery offers Lawn Burials, Full Kerb Set Burials as well as the interment of ashes.

Lawn Burials

This choice allows you to place a headstone at the head of the grave. The remainder of the grave space will be grassed, and a few months after the burial when the ground has settled, the area will be levelled to allow it to be mown to a high standard. From then on vases and floral tributes etc will not be permitted on the grass of the grave space.

Full Kerb Set Burials

This allows a small memorial such as a vase, tablet or headstone and base design permitted for the grave. It allows a lot more flexibility than in our lawn sections and leads to a greater expression of memorial design.

Exclusive Right to Burial

Exclusive Right to Burial can be purchased at any time. Following bereavement the Funeral Director will normally suggest this - it means that members of a family can be buried together and a memorial may be fixed on the grave.

After the Burial

As soon as it is practical the grave will be levelled and turfed over or seeded. This may take some time depending on the time of year and the ground conditions.

Floral Tributes

Floral tributes, wreaths etc. may be placed on the grave on the day of interment and removed later by relatives. Please remember, however, that it is possible that cemetery staff will have to remove floral tributes after seven days.

Llanelli Crematorium

Members of the Llanelli Joint Burial Authority had actively pursued the provision of a crematorium in Llanelli for many years. This came to fruition in May 2001 a contract was signed between the Burial Authority and a private company – Llanelli Crematorium Ltd. – for the construction of a private crematorium on land which had been purchased by the Burial Authority. The crematorium was opened in October 2002 and, in its first year of operation, nearly 1,000 cremations took place.
